Here are some things to think about. Now I should tell you ahead of time that most people think this is crazy and the few that say it makes sense.....they don't follow through. But here is the sure way to get signed. Let's reverse perspectives for a minute. Pretend you're the record executive that needs to push so many units for the company to keep your job. YES, record executives and talent scouts don't have it easy. You think YOU have pressure on you to get signed....try spending a couple days with these guys for a reality check. include('http://www.askland.net/global/google-code/google-roadrecords-horizontal.php') ?> So you're a record exec and you've got a pile of demos on your desk. Most of them are the same....CD packages with letters saying "Sign us, we're the best, you won't be disappointed" (FYI, that kind of verbage in our book doesn't go very far). Then you run across a group that has a finished CD, has been performing gigs very steady and has reports that they have already sold 20,000 units on their own. Boom! Sign 'em. Can you sell 20,000 units on your own? If you can't, you should reconsider your market plan. Yes, 20,000 units is a lot; but if you can do that on your own andalready have a following then you're all but guaranteed to get signed. The record company is a promotional engine, they are not always the ones to develop you from scratch. Work, study, perform and sell those units. Music
