Road Records and Askland Technologies, Inc
Financial Backing
This is a little bit of a grey area for us. We back projects and artists that we believe can help particular community groups and/or can show a profit and return. In general, we back corporate audio projects, not commercial artists.

Examples of Projects We DO Back:
Audio projects for niche market interest groups, alternative health recordings, instructional recordings and books on tape, self help and personal improvement tapes, informational recordings of interest to the general public and/or businesses, instrumental recordings (ie: Christmas Music, specialty instruments and or ethnic styles).

If you have an idea for a profitable project, please submit your idea to us along with some form of business plan.

What We Can Do:
Through our parent company Askland Technologies, Inc we have available all the resources for complete product development, marketing, order fulfillment and sales generation. Depending on the project, the artist may opt for a buyout of the project or for a percentage cut of sales. Road Records is the audio production facility of Askland Technologies.

Examples of Projects We Don't Back:
Solo commercial artists, bands, choirs, school recordings, church and ministry recordings. These are all groups that have the means to pay for and promote their own recording. However, we DO set up easy payment plans and production schedules catering to each clients needs.

Why don't you help artists?
We do. We have many ways that we help artists with their productions. These include backing the New Faces Series compilation CD, free internet promotion, artist pages on our website, streaming real audio samples, discount commercial duplication services, online sales, discount graphic design and special discounts on audio mastering.

Why don't you back commercial artists?
We have in the past, but lost our money on the investments. It takes more than just recording a project to show a profit. The artist must support the recording with a commitment of live shows and promotion. Because we focus intensely on areas of audio production, we don't have the resources to do all the leg work for artists. Artists that are self motivated and hard works will generally always see a profit on their own projects. We have found that artists that back themselves take the work more seriously than those that don't.

Projects "On Spec":
We don't do any projects "on spec" for a cut of later sales. If we believe strongly in a project we will back it entirely. Since 1989, we have had not one single "spec" project that actually paid us our cut.

Bottom Line
Our experience has been that commercial artists which don't back themselves aren't serious about recording. Our recording studio rates are extremely reasonable so that virtually anyone can afford to back themselves for audio production.

Example: We would not back a recording of an upcoming Hispanic artist, but we might back a recording of traditional Hispanic songs with authentic instruments.
